Activities Week Service Learning

During the Senior Activities Week trip to Batanes, our students provided support to the Sumnanga Elementary School, including providing enough funds to support the construction of their new library: “Little Free Library”. This support was a way of saying thank you for all of their help during the week.

Habitat for Humanity Build – Saturday 18 May
By Chloe Salva, 12NMC

“In celebration of the 2019 Young Leader’s Build, Habitat for Humanity BSM went to Bistekville 1 to repaint the houses of the residents. We were able to finish painting five houses and befriended the residents, which made the build more enjoyable and fun. After painting, our HFH BSM campus chapter launched its very own slipper and dental drive, distributing 300 slippers and 300 dental kits to the families of Bistekville 1. This served to educate families about sanitation and hygiene. It was truly an unforgettable event that we will all cherish! HFH BSM would like to thank all our volunteers for coming on a bright early Saturday morning and Bantex Slippers for sponsoring their products!”

Year 4: One Million Lights Jumble Sale – Saturday 18 May

Some amazing Year 4 students, Sarai Rogers, Chloe Herberts and Tara Elliott-Lopez, all from 4SC got up super early to run a stall at the PTA Jumble Sale, not to raise money for themselves, but for their Service Partner, One Million Lights. They sorted through their belongings at home, and together raised Php 2,850. This is enough for them to buy a solar powered light each for those in need. A shining example.

Year 4: One Million Lights distribution – Tuesday 21 May

And on Tuesday 21 May, all of the Year 4 students got to hand deliver solar lights to members of the community surrounding the Mount Purro Nature Camp in Rizal. 73 solar lights were delivered, and the students got to hear about how the lights will have an immediate impact on the recipient families, as well as visit some of the homes. A thought provoking day, working with a really great Service Partner.
