BSM, an International Senior High School

Rebekah Russel
Head of Senior School

Our Senior School is a lively, dynamic, learning-focused environment. We guide and support students on their journey to academic excellence, providing them with opportunities to develop the skills needed for life as global citizens, underpinning this with a strong emphasis on the development of moral values. Our BSM Well-being Framework aims to equip students with tools that will help them as they journey through life developing self acceptance, gaining an ability to lead a healthy and balanced life, whilst creating a sense of belonging and building capacity for growth and resilience. The well-being of each child at BSM is at the forefront of all we do and every decision that is made.

A Holistic Approach to Learning

We are highly skilled in transitioning students both from our Primary School and from other primary schools. Whilst much learning takes place inside the classroom, we place a high level of importance on providing experiences beyond the scope of the traditional curriculum. Our Service, Sports, Visual and Performing Arts, Residential programmes and Model United Nations groups are all extremely strong.

This holistic approach to your child’s education, supported by our strong Student Welfare Team, is designed to be tailored to meet the needs and passions of each student.

Our Curriculum throughout the Key Stages

Key Stage 3
In years 7, 8 and 9 our challenge is to ensure that we provide all students with a full and varied curriculum, which will enable them to make informed choices in Year 9 that will prepare them for their Higher Education. Our KS3 curriculum can be summed up as the following:

  • Broad, in that a wide range of subjects across all of the academic disciplines are studied.
  • Balanced by an appropriate amount of time being given to each subject area.
  • Differentiated, so that each student can reach his/her potential.
  • Relevant to students having a wide range of educational backgrounds, abilities and aspirations.

Key Stage 4
The great strength of our Year 10 and 11 curriculum is that it is broad, balanced, differentiated and relevant. It will enable them to gain internationally recognised and respected qualifications in a wide range of subjects that will prepare them for whatever the future may hold.

Key Stage 5
Years 12 and 13 follow the academically rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Students follow six subjects, one from each of these curriculum areas:

  1. Studies in Language and Literature
  2.  Individuals and societies
  3. Mathematics
  4. The arts
  5. Sciences
  6. Language acquisition

Three of them must be taken at a higher level, allowing for a degree of specialisation, and three at a standard level providing a breadth of study.
