BSM recently had the honour of hosting Mr Ian Takahashi, a renowned underwater cinematographer known for his work on blockbuster films and groundbreaking documentaries. Mr Takahashi engaged with BSM SEAtizens and Year 8 students, sharing his extensive experience in underwater filmmaking and providing an inspiring glimpse into the world of cinematic technology.
Takahashi's impressive portfolio spans a wide range of films, television series, and music videos. He has contributed to major productions such as “Suicide Squad”, “Pretty Little Liars”, and the Star Wars series “Ahsoka”. Beyond film and television, he has worked with renowned music artists like Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and Selena Gomez, capturing breathtaking underwater visuals for their music videos. His expertise extends to the commercial realm as well, where he has filmed underwater scenes for high-profile brands such as Apple, Nike, Powerade, and Polo Ralph Lauren. Across all these projects, Mr Takahashi’s mastery of underwater cinematography has been pivotal in creating stunning sequences that bring a unique and dynamic visual element to each production.

During his visit, Mr Takahashi spoke to Mr Kalff, Mr Martinez and their Year 8 students who are currently immersed in a Video Editing Unit. They have been learning how to use green screen technology and video editing software to create their own advertisements. Mr Takahashi provided insights into the professional techniques used in the industry, particularly those involved in filming underwater scenes. His stories about working in challenging underwater environments captivated the students, offering them a real-world perspective on the complexities and creativity involved in video production.
