On Saturday, 02 March, BSM entered two teams of our finest chess players from Years 7-13 into the 2nd FOBISIA Online Chess Tournament. The anticipation was high with our Team 1 having narrowly missed out on winning the gold medal last year to SKDU Kota Damansara. The teams assembled in English 7 to play in the tournament, in which they would be matched with players from 60 other teams from across Asia to play as many games as possible within the 90-minute time limit. For the duration of the tournament, the students displayed impressive focus as they played game after game, celebrating their wins, and learning from their losses. Despite the intense competition, Team 1 managed to maintain a top 5 position throughout the tournament, and with only a few minutes to go managed to clinch first place, ending the tournament with an amazing 91 points, a 1-point win over British School Jakarta. Team 2 also finished in a very respectable 39th place overall.
A huge well done to all of the players: Jeremy (Year 13), Johann (Year 10), Haruka (Year 8), Ethan (Year 11), Reese (Year 11), Tristan (Year 12), Chaz (Year 9), Yashikaa (Year 7), Sam (Year 7) and Roman (Year 7).
Senior Chess ASA is on Wednesdays from 02.40pm until 03.40pm in English 1, we would welcome any new members who wish to come and join us.
