Student Advocacy on the Global Stage: Johann (Year 12) at the United Nations

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Johann (Year 12), whose advocacy for Filipino Sign Language (FSL) has reached the global stage through his participation in the 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

As part of this prestigious international gathering, which brings together youth leaders to engage with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Johann delivered two intervention speeches in sessions focussed on SDG 6 and Leave No One Behind. Speaking on the UN Trusteeship Council Chamber floor, he highlighted the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and the rights of the deaf community, drawing attention to the vital role of FSL in promoting equity and participation.

Johann’s journey reflects the power of student-led action. What began as a school-based initiative has grown into a meaningful advocacy effort with community engagement and now international recognition. His work demonstrates a deep commitment to inclusion and amplifying underrepresented voices.

His participation at the UN is a significant milestone and a proud moment for the school community. It serves as a powerful reminder of the impact students can have when they engage with global issues and use their voices to drive change.

Docathon: Student Film Exchange–Sharing Stories Across the Globe

On Wednesday, 22 April, six of our students proudly represented the school in an inspiring international Docathon: Student Film Exchange, connecting with peers from across the world, including the UK, Nigeria, Kenya, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The event was a celebration not only of filmmaking, but of storytelling, perspective, and global collaboration.

The students showcased documentaries they had created during our recent Make A Difference Week—a programme designed to encourage meaningful engagement with issues of sustainability, social justice, and community impact. Each film reflected the students’ creativity, empathy, and commitment to exploring real-world challenges, offering powerful insights into the communities and causes they encountered.

The exchange provided a unique platform for students to share their work with an international audience, while also watching and learning from documentaries produced by their peers around the globe. It was a powerful reminder of how storytelling can bridge cultures and spark important conversations, even across continents.

Most importantly, it was a fantastic opportunity to see our students shine. They spoke with confidence, engaged thoughtfully with questions, and demonstrated a deep sense of pride in their work. Their ability to communicate complex ideas through film—and to connect with a global audience—was truly impressive.

As a result of their dedication and hard work, the participating students are now on track to earn the Global Perspectives Leader credential from RMIT University—a significant achievement that recognises their commitment to global thinking, collaboration, and impactful storytelling.

Events like the Docathon: Student Film Exchange highlight the importance of student voice and creativity, and we are incredibly proud of all those who took part.

Earth Day Fundraiser: Students Taking Action for a Sustainable Future

In celebration of Earth Day, three of our Service & Sustainability (S&S) ASAs, S&S Council, Roots4Change, and One Million Lights, came together to organise a vibrant and impactful fundraiser focused on promoting eco-conscious living.

Students led a series of stalls offering a variety of sustainable drinks and snacks, encouraging the school community to make environmentally friendly choices while supporting meaningful causes. The initiative was a great success, raising over Php12,000.00 through the collective efforts of the three groups.

The funds raised will directly support a range of important projects, including the Disaster Relief Fund, mangrove restoration initiatives, and the provision of solar lights to communities in need. Each of these projects reflects the students’ commitment to addressing both environmental and social challenges in a practical and impactful way.

Beyond fundraising, the event also served as an opportunity to raise awareness about sustainability and inspire others to take small but meaningful steps towards a greener future.

This Earth Day initiative is a testament to the passion, leadership, and sense of responsibility demonstrated by our students. Their efforts continue to make a real difference, both within our community and beyond.

Thank you for your compassion and support.
