International Women's Month

As part of International Women’s Month, the S&S Team are putting on fundraisers and events every week to highlight not just the role and challenges of women in society but also to raise funds to support projects that are particularly focused on female causes. This week’s event was led by HerHealth, one of our student-led ASAs.

HerHealth

Globally, an estimated 500 million women are affected by period poverty, with girls around the world facing health risks and barriers to education as a result. Despite how widespread this issue is, many people remain unaware of the serious consequences it brings. Young girls are especially at risk of missing school, facing health complications, and experiencing shame and stigma simply because they lack access to safe menstrual products. Countries such as Botswana, Kenya, New Zealand, Scotland, and many others have already begun providing menstrual products for free through government support. If they can take these steps, why can’t we?

On  Tuesday-Wednesday, 10-11 March, our ASA, HerHealth, organised a fundraiser to support efforts against menstrual poverty. Through this initiative, we hope to first spark conversation within our own community before expanding our efforts toward understanding and supporting the needs of underprivileged groups across Metro Manila. Our focus is to educate ourselves, raise awareness among others, and ultimately create a lasting and positive impact in society.

In honour of International Women’s Month, HerHealth hopes not only to raise funds but also to raise awareness and shed light on a problem that continues to affect millions in silence. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported our cause, helping us take a small but meaningful step toward menstrual equity.

Thank you for your compassion and support.
