What’s on the Walls in the CAC

Our display spaces are filling up with work from across the school as students bring a busy term of making to a close. In Years 1–3, students have been working with sustainable design and construction, using recycled cardboard and simple 3D tools to explore form and structure. Year 1 created symmetrical 3D ornaments, Year 2 produced Matisse-inspired collages, and Year 3 constructed robots with moving parts using their knowledge of shapes and fasteners.

In Year 9, students have been developing their ceramic skills step by step, moving from pinch pots to slabs and then applying both in a personal design project. Each student created a functional piece inspired by someone important to them, resulting in thoughtful, handmade works that will be part of our ceramics display.

Across the Senior School, the walls will feature digital illustrations made by Year 7, and a range of fine art and design work from Years 10–11, in particular, the oil painting practice from Years 12–13.

We hope you can come and take a look at the CAC to see what's on the walls!

🎶 Term 1 Vocal and Instrumental Programme Recitals

Across four afternoons in November, students from the Vocal and Instrumental Programme took to the Holst stage in the CAC to share the progress they have made this term. With performers ranging from our youngest beginners to senior students, the recitals showcased a wide variety of instruments and musical styles, and a clear reflection of the breadth of learning happening in lessons.

These recitals represent a core aim of the programme: giving students purposeful opportunities to perform, build confidence, and demonstrate their developing musical technique and expression. It was a pleasure to see students apply their rehearsal habits, communicate musically, and present themselves with growing assurance.

Thank you to Ms Aldaba, whose coordination ensures the smooth running of the programme throughout the year; to Mr Soriano, who managed sound across the recitals; and to our dedicated Music Coaches, whose expertise and care prepared students so thoughtfully for their performances.

Congratulations to all performers for their hard work, courage, and musical achievement!

🎶 Join our new BSM Show Choir!

BSM Show Choir, a new Senior School vocal ensemble for students who enjoy singing musical theatre repertoire. Open to all with no audition required, the group provides a supportive space to develop vocal technique, build ensemble skills, and experience the joy of performing together.

Rehearsals take place every Wednesday lunchtime in Holst, with students welcome to eat a packed lunch in the music room afterwards. Membership in Show Choir is a shared commitment, and we welcome enthusiastic students who bring positivity, preparation, and consistency to the ensemble.

Students who want to be involved can find out more here, and sign up here.

🎶 BSM Chamber Orchestra is looking for new members!

The BSM Chamber Orchestra invites experienced Senior School musicians to take part in an exciting programme of orchestral music during Terms 2 and 3. Open to students playing strings, woodwind, brass, or percussion at approximately Grade 4 level or above, the ensemble will work on a varied and rewarding repertoire, including selections from Musical Theatre and the first movement of Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor.

While participation is invitation-based to ensure instrumental balance, students who are interested in joining are warmly encouraged to express their interest, and may be invited for a short audition at the start of Term 2.

Students keen to be involved can find out more here, and sign up here.
