It’s application season in the College Counselling office, so our focus is mostly (but not exclusively) on Year 13 as they submit their American Early Decision/Early Action applications for the November 1 deadline and their UCAS applications next month. Letters of recommendation are being written and students should now be finalising their applications, getting ready to submit them before the deadlines.
On Monday and Tuesday this week, we took part in two great student and family sessions with the Year 11 cohort to introduce the IB Subject selection process, and it was wonderful to have so many thoughtful questions from the students and to dispel some common misconceptions held about university/college admissions. Super-curricular enrichment opportunity - University of Hong Kong (ranked #11 globally)
Hong Kong U has launched a new Academy for the Talented, admission to which students are able to apply and self-nominate. This offers some excellent super-curricular opportunities online, and sometimes in-person during school holidays at their Pokfulam Road campus on Hong Kong Island.
Students in Years 10-12 only can self-nominate by registering here.
There are also discounts available on some of the courses below for Academy members.

Wednesday, 05 November - University of Calgary - an often overlooked excellent Canadian university is coming to BSM to meet students in Years 11-13. If you want to know more about a typical Canadian uni with a great co-op programme, please sign up here. Parents are welcome to join.
Saturday, 08 November - University of Melbourne - in person event at the Admiral Hotel, Manila, MGallery Collection 10.00am-01.00pm. Meet Clare Bingley, the Mel U representative in person and find out more about your study options at Australia's #1 university. If you want to attend, you must register here.
Saturday, 08 November - Syracuse University (1) - a great private research university in upstate New York. Attendance at this event in Makati will be tracked as part of 'demonstrated interest' for admissions purposes, so if you are considering Syracuse, it will be well worth attending. Register here if you wish to attend between 04.00pm and 06.00pm.
Monday, 10 November - Syracuse University (2) - Sherlyn from Syracuse will visit our BSM campus from 12.40pm-01.30pm so do sign up to meet her in a more intimate setting, where you can get your individual questions answered and get some more niche application tips.
