Year 10 Careers Exploration

Next week, on Wednesday, 29 April, Year 10 students will showcase the culmination of their Career Investigations, each presenting research into a specific profession and reflecting on the interests, pathways, qualifications, and skills connected to that field. This milestone highlights an important part of the College Counselling Programme’s Year 10 focus on discovery, helping students connect self-awareness with future planning.

Following this, on Thursday, 07 May, Pfizer Philippines will visit to speak with Year 10 and Year 12 students about careers in clinical research, data, safety, logistics, and beyond, offering valuable insight into professional pathways and the many ways their work makes a difference. We are delighted to connect our students with one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies as they discover just how many different kinds of jobs there can be in such a large conglomerate.

US Highly Selective Liberal Arts Colleges Workshop

Thank you to all parents and students who came to this session last Thursday, 16 April, where we heard first-hand insights from 4 highly selective American Liberal Arts colleges. Some key messages were:

  • Liberal Arts colleges are a superb way for students to grow, develop and be nurtured as academics and as people.
  • Admissions decisions can change from year to year, due to individual schools’ changing institutional priorities
  • Making sure that students have researched the colleges they are applying to is vital, so as to make sure that they are a good fit for each other
  • These colleges have way fewer places than eligible applicants, and so any rejections should not be taken personally by the students.

All the college representatives spoke so highly to us of our students and parents, and were highly impressed with the quality of engagement and questions from our BSM community. Thank you, everyone!

You can find the slides from the session here, in case you were unable to attend, to see what our college counselling team has to say about some of these myths, misconceptions and realities. Do reach out to us if you have any questions.

Class of 2026 University Admissions Update

We have seen a great deal of admissions activity over the last couple of months since our previous update in February. As you can see from the infographic, as of 17 April, BSM students have been accepted to a wide range of global universities, including (to date—there are more decisions to come!) 26 of the QS World Universities Top 100 institutions.

For a relatively small cohort of only 67 students, and with multiple offers from many prominent universities/colleges, this is a remarkable achievement!

We must also mention that some students in the cohort have also received offers from European powerhouses that do not appear in the rankings, such as Sciences Po, Bocconi and IE universities.

We wish the Class of 2026 the very best of luck with their IB exams and look forward to meeting with them all individually as part of their transition from BSM to the ‘big wide world’.

Warm regards,

BSM College Counselling Team
