Year 10 & 12 Pfizer presentation
A team from Pfizer Philippines spoke last Thursday to Year 10 and Year 12 students about “Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives”, showing how science, data, and care can combine to make a global impact. Students learned that a large pharmaceutical company offers many pathways beyond the laboratory, including clinical research, biostatistics, statistical data science, clinical data management, pharmacovigilance, clinical supply, quality operations, pharmacy, HR, and talent acquisition.
The speakers from Pfizer also demonstrated the range of qualifications that can lead to these careers, from degrees in pharmacy, chemistry, statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, genetics, and microbiology, to business administration, psychology, engineering and supply chain. A key message was that career journeys are rarely linear: curiosity, adaptability, and continuous learning matter too. Pfizer highlighted valued skills such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, attention to detail, empathy, accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and learning agility, encouraging students to see future careers as opportunities to improve lives worldwide.
For our Year 10 students, this event represented the culmination of a four-part PSHE sequence involving career investigations, while for our Year 12s, the Pfizer presentation undoubtedly raised awareness of the nature of several exciting, impactful career possibilities right here in the Philippines.
We would like to thank the seven Pfizer staff members for sharing their experience and expertise with our students. The measure of the impact of the talk was seen in the number of students who stayed to speak with the Pfizer presenters in person after the session. Well done to Years 10 & 12 for such high levels of engagement.
