World Scholar's Cup in Singapore School Manila
Dear Families,
BSM was proud to take its first-ever World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) delegation to the event in Singapore School Manila, to compete in debate, writing, teamwork and critical thinking challenges. All of our twelve BSM scholars qualified for the next round, to be held in Kuala Lumpur in August, which was a wonderful result for first-time competitors. Here, Sydney, Dalisai, and Ashley from Year 11 reflect upon their experience:
It is not an exaggeration to say that the WSC experience was similar to that of riding a roller coaster. It had us anxiously awaiting the results down to the last moment, grasping at each other's arms. Although we felt joyous, there were other times of worry, obsessively dissecting our group's overall performance as novices. But, looking past these ‘what ifs’, was a thrilling, adrenaline-inducing experience: sitting in a room with more than 350 students from all over the Philippines, supporting newfound friends on stage, and beaming with pride as schoolmates’ names were called to be awarded.
Needless to say, it reiterated the cliché that the process, however inconvenient it may be, is just as, if not more important as the result; qualifying was only fulfilling knowing all cards were on the table. The enjoyment we had, competing together as friends but more so pushing our collaborative boundaries to achieve something of genuine heart, created a truly unique and unforgettable moment to be cherished even as many more years pass.
Have a wonderful weekend.
