Mount Pulag sunrise climb, Mock Exams in progress, teacher recruitment underway, and Youth Writer's Fair

Dear Families,

As I write this, our Mount Pulag group are returning from the summit, having climbed there for sunrise. This is among many extraordinary experiences happening on site and across southern Luzon. At the next Whole School Assembly, we will be sharing reflections on this incredible experiential week.

Also in full swing are our internal mock examinations. These are invaluable for our exam classes to practice the process and retrieve prior knowledge in the build-up to the major exams in May and June. The students are doing themselves proud so far.

We have almost finished our teacher recruitment for the next school year in Senior School.  It has been wonderful to hear from numerous candidates that they want to join BSM specifically for the opportunity to develop as teachers. We work hard to increase the quality of delivery and upskill all our teachers all the time. It is pleasing to know that this reputation is cross-border and bodes well for the future of our school.

Beyond the Page: Students in Conversation at the Youth Writers Fair

This year’s Youth Writers Fair was a joyful celebration of storytelling and connection, led by Ava (Year 12), Head of the BSM Book Club, together with Jack (Year 13) and her ISM colleagues. In collaboration with the International School Manila, students stepped into the role of interviewers, engaging directly with published authors and young writers to explore what it truly means to read and write with imagination and heart. Our students met a wonderfully diverse group of writers. These included Nikki Go, a high school author and founder of the Damgo Art Therapy Foundation; Justine Camacho-Tajonera, a prolific writer across genres; Soheon Rhee, a poet and literacy advocate; Joyce Rochelle Montañano, author and creator of the Read and Ride Mobile Book Store; and Beverly “Bebang” Siy, an acclaimed illustrator, translator, and author. Through conversation and reflection, students discovered that writing is not only about achievement but about empathy and lived experience.

We were incredibly fortunate to work with ISM to host such inspiring guests and look forward to welcoming the Youth Writers Fair to BSM next year. Students interested in joining the BSM Book Club are encouraged to contact Mr Anderson. The club meets every Wednesday in the library and brings together an imaginative and thoughtful collective of readers and writers.
