Thank you and farewell, BSM! Year 7 English Exhibition & Humanities Exhibition on Conflict highlights
Dear Families,
This morning’s Final Assembly was a fitting finale to what has been a remarkable year, one filled with opportunities, growth, learning, fresh challenges, and countless cherished memories shaped by the many meaningful relationships across our community.
When I told Mr Van this would be my final year at BSM, it was not an easy decision. Leaving a place that my family and I have proudly called home for the past eight years comes with deep emotion and reflection.
Like many expats in the Philippines, we have strong ties to other parts of the world - places we've lived before, places our families still live. After much thought, we decided to return to Colombia, a country that was home to me for 15 years and the birthplace of my wife and daughters.
It has been an incredible privilege to lead the Senior School over the past five years. As some of you may recall, I stepped into the role during the early stages of the pandemic. I still remember outlining a plan for my first 100 days in my new position - little did I know it would take nearly 600 days before I could greet a student face to face!
Over the last eight years, I’ve had the joy of witnessing and participating in countless highlights: community events, thrilling sporting competitions, theatre and musical productions, trips, excursions, and some unforgettable Activities Weeks. These moments brought life and colour to our school experience.
But what I will miss most are the people - the relationships and friendships that have shaped our journey here. The connections we’ve made with parents, teachers, students, and support staff have enriched our lives in immeasurable ways. You have made this place more than just a workplace - you have made it a home.
To everyone who has supported me and my family during our time here: thank you, sincerely. Your kindness and encouragement have meant the world to us. As we return to Colombia, we will carry BSM in our hearts always and remember our time here with great affection.
Wishing you all continued success, happiness, and strength in the years to come.

Year 7 English Exhibition
Year 7 finished their year in English by demonstrating the skills they have learnt with their ‘Poetry Exhibition’.
This has allowed students to work both collaboratively and independently on their research skills, read a range of pre- and post-20th-century poetry from around the world, analyse poems, write poems, and explore creative ways to present this work.
They have been thoroughly engaged, have had fun, and are proud (as are we) of all of their efforts and achievements.

Year 7 Humanities Exhibition on Conflict
Putting together our Conflict Exhibition was both a rewarding and challenging experience. There were moments when my partner Keene and I felt overwhelmed, especially because we had tried to bring The Crusades, a complex and broad topic, to life.
In the end, we were able to pull through, even if we got distracted at times. We were surprised to see our presentation well-received, catching people’s attention, and leading them to ask various questions on the Crusading Factions, the weapons used, and the impacts the Crusades had on the modern world. - Colin, 7ELM
