Great strength of BSM is the breadth of experiences beyond the classroom that we offer to our students

Dear families,

I thoroughly enjoyed International Evening last week. It was a wonderful celebration of culture, friendship and food, and a reminder of the vibrant community that makes our school such a special place. I happened to have family visiting at the time, and one of the things they noticed immediately was how often our Senior School students were spending time with their families during the evening—chatting, eating, and enjoying the atmosphere together. It struck them as unusual, but to us it is something we see often. That sense of connection between students and parents is one of the real strengths of our community, and it is something to be valued and enjoyed whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Another great strength of our school is the breadth of experiences beyond the classroom that our students are able to access. Over the coming weeks, this will be particularly visible, with FOBISIA sports teams travelling to compete, our Drama students performing at a festival in Taiwan, a junior STEM team representing the school internationally, and our SEATIZENS continuing their exploration of the remarkable underwater ecosystems around us. At the same time, our Activities Week trip leaders will be conducting their final site inspections to ensure those experiences are ready for students later in the school year.

Each of these opportunities requires an enormous amount of planning, attention to detail and commitment from staff. Behind every trip, competition, or expedition is a team of colleagues who are investing time and energy to ensure that these experiences are safe, meaningful and memorable for our students. It is something we are very grateful for as a school.

We will also continue to talk with students about the idea of active gratitude. Opportunities such as these are a privilege, and part of growing up in a community like ours is recognising that privilege and making the most of it. Our hope is that students not only enjoy these experiences, but approach them with curiosity, enthusiasm and appreciation.

Kind regards,

Mark Attwood

Maths FOBISIA Bangkok

On 05-08 February 2026, eight BSM students from Years 7 and 8 travel to Bangkok Patana School to compete in the FOBISIA Mathematics Competition with 188 participants in 47 teams. Over three days, students participated in 6 different competition rounds, in a mix of formats, but all demanding a high level of mathematical reasoning and skills.

One of our teams - the 'Square Roots', placed 3rd in the cross-umber round, but all students represented the school with Respect, Integrity and Kindness.
