What a superb half-term it has been and more things to look forward to, Year 7 Perfect Country Exhibition, and BSM SEAtizens Dive

Dear Families,

It has been a superb few months filled with energy, growth, and countless opportunities for our students to shine. From academic milestones to co-curricular successes, it has been wonderful to see them challenge themselves, support one another, and continue to develop as confident, curious, and compassionate young people.

As we look ahead, I hope we can continue working together to encourage our students to step beyond their comfort zones, try new things, and make the most of every experience our school has to offer. These moments of exploration and connection are what truly add value to their time with us.

We are also entering an exciting and important period for our Class of 2026 as University Applications begin to take shape. Please join me in wishing them every success as they take this next big step towards their futures. Their hard work, resilience, and ambition are a real source of pride for us all.

I hope you enjoy a well-deserved and restful week ahead. I look forward to seeing many of you at the BSM Fun Run—a fitting celebration of community, spirit, and togetherness to start the new half-term.

Last Friday, 03 October, Year 7 Humanities students presented their ‘Perfect Country’ projects at an exhibition in the Bayanihan Hall. Among other guests, the Year 6s were on hand to probe, question, evaluate and give valuable feedback. Xandy (Year 7) offered the following reflection:

“What is a ‘perfect country’ and can you make one?” This is the question we were asked during our group project. It was not meant to be something "imaginary or fantasy-like” but a realistic country.

Our journey to make our country presented some challenges; you could say it was a “rough start but a strong finish”. At first we had to learn about constitutions and in the remaining time we had, we discussed the main parts of our exhibition, eg the political system, the name of the country and the flag. We worked really hard to finish and wrap things up, using inspiration from last year’s “perfect country” introduction, which heavily inspired the aesthetics of our project. We divided up our lines when talking about our country’s history and economy, which I think made a big impact with all of us having time to show off what we worked for. What shocked us was the fact that the Year 6s had thought of some very tough questions, as well as the questions the teachers challenged us with.

In the end, I was satisfied with the results of our efforts. It was a great experience for me, and I hope others felt the same."

BSM SEAtizens Dive into Success in Puerto Galera

BSM SEAtizens recently returned from a successful dive trip to Puerto Galera, where they not only developed their diving skills but also strengthened their connection to nature and their responsibility as guardians of the planet.

Despite challenging weather conditions on the journey to the coast, the group was greeted with blue skies and clear waters for the duration of the trip. Over several dives, the SEAtizens learned to apply essential skills such as buoyancy control, underwater navigation, and dive planning, while also gaining confidence and independence in the open water.

Special congratulations go to Irene, Marcos, and Yukiko for completing their Open Water Certification, and to Sebastian for achieving his Advanced Open Water Certification. These achievements mark an important milestone in their journey as SEAtizens divers. We encourage everyone in the community to congratulate these students on their accomplishments when you see them around campus.

One of the standout features of the trip was how well students from varying age groups — Years 9 to 13 — came together, bonding over their shared love for diving. The sense of teamwork, support, and camaraderie was evident both above and below the water, highlighting the strength of our SEAtizens community.

The trip was made possible thanks to the support and care of the staff who organised logistics and looked after the group throughout. Our gratitude also goes to the Edgewater staff, who took extra special care of our students, and to the dive masters, who ensured the SEAtizens’ safety underwater at all times.

The highlight of the adventure came during the final dive, when the SEAtizens were thrilled to encounter not one, but four sea turtles — an unforgettable reminder of the beauty and fragility of marine life.

This trip was more than a diving excursion; it was an experience that deepened our SEAtizens’ appreciation for the ocean, enhanced their diving skills, and reinforced the importance of protecting our natural world. We encourage the community to look out for future BSM SEAtizens dive trips, which will continue to give students the chance to grow as divers and ocean guardians.
