University application season, SLC early close reminders, HULT Negotiation Masterclass, and KS3 English reading recommendations

Dear Families,

October signals the start of University application season. The recent Manila World University Fair was a great success, and I hope many of you took the opportunity to attend some of the sessions. Our goal at BSM is to prepare students to succeed at university, not simply achieve entry. Part of that commitment this year is a greater emphasis on supporting our boys to be the best version of themselves. Later in the year, we will be inviting families to sessions relating to this work, and we look forward to that engagement.

Next week, we will be asking your child/ren about their online learning experiences last week. We are very nimble in this area and have used the pandemic experience to offer something in Senior School that is as close to onsite learning as possible. We can always be better still, and we will fine-tune our approach with their feedback.

Business: HULT Negotiation Masterclass - Wednesday, 24 September

Some of our Year 12 and Year 13 Business students recently took part in an exciting negotiation masterclass led by Calle Toren and Marhardika Halim from HULT Business School. This hands-on experiential learning opportunity challenged them to work in teams, strategise, and trade their way to the highest points. Beyond the thrill of competition, students discovered a powerful lesson: success is often built on collaboration and relationships rather than rivalry. It was an inspiring opportunity to develop real-world skills while having fun!

English: KS3 Reading Recommendations for building Literacy Skills

At our Senior School Information Session on 02 September, a number of parents asked Key Stage 3 English teachers for recommendations about what their child/ren should be reading at home. In response to this, our Assistant Head of Department (Key Stage 3), Daniel Gschwandtner, has compiled a list of novels recommended by BSM’s teachers and students. He has also included some other recommendations that may be of interest to you and your family, including podcasts, online magazines and websites for building literacy skills. We hope that this list is helpful.
