Year 9 Shakespeare Day Monologue Competition

Year 9 Shakespeare Day Monologue Competition

Dear Families,

This week, the Year 9 cohort took part in the second annual student-led Shakespeare Day competition, building on a tradition launched last year to celebrate the Bard’s enduring legacy. Organised in collaboration with the BSM Book Club, the event challenged students to reinterpret selected Shakespearean monologues in modern English.

After two weeks of preparation during English lessons, the top two performers from each class were selected to advance to the finals, held on 30 April in the Behn Room.

Finalists performed their adapted monologues in front of the entire Year 9 cohort, with Year 7 students also invited to attend as audience members. The event was judged by a panel of Book Club members and IB Theatre students Ava (Year 11), Advika (Year 12), Rose (Year 12), Lily (Year 12), and Adriana (Year 12).

The confident performances and enthusiastic audience response reaffirm the value of the competition, which the English department has now embedded as an annual feature of the Key Stage 3 curriculum. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners for their creativity, talent, and stage presence!
