We bid farewell to the leaving staff and meet your new Primary School teachers and Summer Scheme 2026

Dear Parents and Families,

As Mr van der Linde noted in his message this week, and as is typical in our international community, this is the point at which we begin confirming colleagues who will be leaving and those who will be joining our academic teams for the next academic year.

Leavers

Ms Marie Del Mundo started working at BSM in 2009 and has served us exceptionally well as our Nursery teacher for the past 10 years. Ms Marie will be greatly missed. She is known for teaching with a heart and has touched the lives of so many of our BSM children and families over the years. We are proudly celebrating her achievements as she moves on to work as Head of Nursery, leading the work of two other teachers in the nursery setting, at an international school in Yangon, next academic year.

Ms Liza Dey, our much-loved EYFS/KS1 Counsellor, will be leaving us at the end of the year to start the retirement phase of her life.  During her ten years at BSM, Ms Liza has specialised in counselling that draws from a range of expressive and play therapies with our youngest students, as well as creating safe spaces for students of all ages, parents, teaching and support staff to engage in meaningful conversations about well-being and mental health.

Ms Marie Hopper has been working in our Student Support Services team as a Speech and Language Therapist since 2023. Within this time, she has made an exceptional contribution to the development of speech and language therapy provision, positively impacting the lives of the children and families she has worked with.  We are grateful to have had her, her children and husband as part of the BSM community these past few years and wish them all well as they return to their home country, Australia.

New Role and New Staff

We are also celebrating the work of Mr Richard Hunt. Mr Hunt has been an instrumental part of shaping our curriculum in Primary School for Outdoor and Service Learning. He has also been an exceptional, much-appreciated and loved class teacher. However, it is with great joy that we see his wider expertise used in a whole school capacity as he remains with BSM but transitions to a different role.

We have been lucky to be able to recruit some excellent incoming academic staff from across the world to replace our leaving staff. Ms Michelle Barnes-Roberts and Ms Lucy Mole will be joining us as teachers. They both come with a wealth of experience in international teaching. Ms Michelle will be working within our EYFS team, and Ms Mole within Key Stage 2. They both join us with children of their own. Ms Cathy French will join us from Cambodia. Over the past 13 years, she has also worked as a Speech and Language Pathologist in Thailand, Bermuda and Canada. We will also be welcoming a new PE teacher, who will be working across the whole school but will be working with Primary for much of his schedule. Mr Javier Galvan Collado is an experienced international educator and has worked in Spain and Ireland.

Warm regards,

Mrs Katie Tomlinson

Summer Scheme 2026

Mr Cosgrove will run a Summer Scheme again this year!

The Summer Scheme 2026 will run from Monday, 22 June, through Friday, 03 July.

The image is a colorful and vibrant promotional poster for a summer scheme program offered by the British School Manila, featuring various activities and details about the program.

This is a two-week programme; to run it, we need a minimum of 65 students, split across four groups. We have a maximum of 80 places available. Traditionally, the groupings have been Nursery & Reception, Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4, and Year 5 & 6. However, these can alter depending on how many students of different ages apply and the staffing available during the summer,

Once a group reaches 20, it will be closed, and any others wishing to join after will be placed on a waiting list. This is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cost of the scheme will be Php30,000.00 for the two weeks, and payment will confirm a place on the scheme.

The enrolment will be open via a link in The Lion's Roar, which will go live on Thursday, 30 April.
