Speech Day 2025 Primary School Awards and summer activities

Speech Day 2025 Primary School Awards and summer activities

Dear BSM Primary Families,

I wanted to share with Primary School parents the opportunity of some great ideas for summer activities - completed by children at their own pace and in their own time over a 6-week period. We know the holidays can be long, but we came across The Sunshine Squad and I thought this was a great opportunity for students to undertake as a challenge over the holiday period.

The provider has told me there are only 27 places remaining within this now, so please register soon if you wish for your child/ren to take part. It seems like a great opportunity for them to be kept occupied in interesting, creative, thinking and physical ways over the holidays. It is run through an app, but none of the activities are screen-based. The app is only used to launch and track the activities and challenges completed.

Speech Day is an event that celebrates our students' academic achievements and attitudes, as well as their outstanding contributions to the wider life of the school and the wider community.

Speech Day is for staff, students, and parents of Years 6-13. It will take place this year on Saturday, 14 June and will promptly start at 10.00am. Year 5 staff and students are invited to attend. We would be delighted if as many of you as possible could join us.

The awards for Primary School students and the criteria used to decide upon the awardees are outlined below.

Speech Day 2025 Primary School Awards

Academic Excellence Award

Three awards — one per Year 6 class

This award is presented to the student in each class who, in the professional judgement of the Year 6 team, has demonstrated academic excellence across the curriculum. Awardees have achieved highly in class-based learning and in both formal and informal assessments. They are recognised for their ability to think critically, work independently, and contribute meaningfully to discussions and tasks.

Approach to Learning Award

Three awards — one per Year 6 class

This award recognises the student in each class who has embodied the BSM Learning Powers and character strengths throughout the year. The Year 6 Team have selected students whose commitment to learning and collaboration has made a significant and positive impact on their classroom communities.

Global Citizenship Award: Community Building and Contribution

Three awards — selected from the whole Year 6 cohort.

This award is given to students who best embody the spirit of BSM through their active and sustained contributions to the school and broader community. They are recognised for using their talents and time to represent BSM’s values beyond the classroom. Awardees may have demonstrated this through school events, productions, interschool collaborations such as FOBISIA, or other community-building initiatives.

Service and Sustainability Award

Three awards — selected from the whole Year 6 cohort.

This award honours students whose actions reflect a sustained commitment to making BSM—and the wider community—a better, kinder, and more sustainable place. These students are recognised not just for what they do, but for the integrity and purpose behind their actions. Their work makes a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend,

Summer Scheme 2025

Summer Scheme will run from Monday, 23 June, through Friday, 04 July.

This is a two-week programme; to run it, we need 65 students at a minimum, spread across four groups. We have a maximum of 80 places available. Traditionally, the groupings have been Nursery & Reception, Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4, and Year 5 & 6. However, these can alter depending on how many students of different ages apply and staffing available during the summer. Once a group reaches 20, then that group will be closed, and any others wishing to join after will be placed on a waiting list. This is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cost of the scheme will be Php 28,000.00, and payment will confirm a place on the scheme.

Please fill in this form for the Summer Scheme 2025 registration. A place on the scheme cannot be confirmed until proof of payment is received.
