Nursery Rhyme Week and a visit from the Upskills Foundation Community

Dear Parents,

I had no time to add the joy of last Friday to the Lion’s Roar message for last week so it is the focus of my message this week!

Last Friday saw two exciting events in Primary School: Nursery Rhyme Week and a visit from the Upskills Foundation Community.

The students in Reception and Year 1 dressed as their favourite Nursery Rhyme character on Friday. During the week, they had focussed learning activities involving singing and dancing, reciting and acting and on Friday had a wonderful parade together. My favourite parts were watching the Nursery students record their rhymes: The Bear Over the Mountain & Five Little Ducks and seeing them coming to school dressed up and  having their photographs taken in front of the BSM Christmas tree: astronauts, sheep, farmers, mice - just a joy to watch.

Mr Wilson and the Year 6 team invited their Service Learning partner, Upskills Foundation, for a visit on Friday. The children visiting played games and ate with our Year 6 students. At the end of the visit, the Christmas Gift boxes which KS2 have been creating were given along with the prepared food parcels. Jane Walker MBE, founder and CEO of The Purple Community Fund and Upskills+ Foundation, Inc, joined us with all of KS2 for an assembly and updated us about the situation in Tondo following the floods, fire, and typhoons.

Thanks especially to Rich Hunt, Michael Wilson, Year 6 Parent Reps, and indeed any parents who supported fundraising and/or the creation of Christmas Gift Boxes. Without this support, we couldn't do all that we do with our students that is extra to their classroom provision.
