PTCs and a few reminders on healthy usage of technology

PTCs and a few reminders on healthy usage of technology

Dear Parents,

Thanks to all the parents who attended our online ‘Settling-in’ PTCs this week. If you missed the opportunity to meet with your child/ren’s class teacher, then please do get in touch with them. Our staff are always keen to make special provision for parents who wish to connect.

Please note that there will be a message on the Year 4, 5, and 6 Google Communication Hubs today advising parents to disable iMessage on their child/ren’s device. Primary School students are still developing the skills to manage their emotions, relationships and digital habits. They may find it difficult to deal with the pressures of group chats or recognise when messages sent on social platforms are inappropriate. Disabling iMessage (or any other social group messaging app) reduces unnecessary risks and creates clearer boundaries.

Our expectations of technology use in school are clear: students are not allowed to access devices outside of teacher permission and lessons whilst they are on the school campus. Where we are aware that the students have not been able to meet these expectations, we will notify parents and take appropriate action. Parents will need to consider their own rules of technology use outside of the school campus.

As a precautionary measure, parents may wish to check your child/ren’s use of iMessage when you are disabling the function to ensure no historic information is on there that you are unaware of.
