Dear BSM Family,
Our Birthday Assembly on Wednesday was fantastic! Thank you to everyone who contributed and to the fantastic turnout from parents. As I shared in the Assembly, our 50th anniversary is a very special milestone and celebrating it is important. It’s important because, as we all know, schools are more than buildings, timetables and examination results; we are a community shaped over time by the people who have learned, taught, worked, played, performed, competed and grown within them.
Looking back at our history helps us understand who we are and how we became this community. It reminds us that many of the things we enjoy today were built through the commitment, imagination and generosity of people who came before us.
Anniversaries give us an opportunity to be grateful for what we have inherited, to recognise our responsibility for the school today, and to think about what we want to leave for those who will be here in another 10, 25, or even 50 years.

For our students, you are not simply attending BSM during its 50th year; you are part of its history. The friendships you make, the way you treat others, the things you contribute, and the choices you make all become part of the story of the school. Enjoy being part of a truly special year.
For 50 years, thousands of people have helped write the story of BSM. This year we celebrate that story, but we should also remember that every one of us is now helping to write its next chapter.
Please see elsewhere in this Lion’s Roar a milestone in our Sustainability journey, switching our power supply to renewable-only sourced energy. Along with our solar plant, this really puts us on a positive sustainable trajectory.

Parent Workshops
Mitch Joynt, New Zealand Paralympian - Supporting Children Through Adversity and Developing Growth and Resilience, Monday, 07 September 2026, 01.30pm-02.30pm, Kalayaan Hall
Mitch will share his remarkable journey from an ordinary rural upbringing in New Zealand to experiencing a life-changing workplace accident, and ultimately representing his country on the Paralympic stage.
Through his personal story, Mitch will explore how challenges and setbacks can shape us, the importance of perspective and perseverance, and how we can support young people to navigate adversity, build resilience and develop the confidence to keep moving forward when things don’t go to plan.
The session will include an open Q&A, giving parents the opportunity to ask Mitch about his recovery, mindset, experiences as a professional athlete, and the lessons he has learned along the way.

BSM’s Transition to 100% Renewable Energy
This week marked a number of historic milestones for The British School Manila. Alongside the celebrations marking the start of our golden anniversary, on Wednesday, BSM officially transitioned the school’s electricity supply to 100% renewable energy. By sourcing electricity generated from solar and wind energy facilities, BSM is significantly reducing its operational carbon footprint and taking direct ownership of our environmental impact in the Philippines.
Our transition to ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions as our energy supplier, alongside the second phase of our solar power system scheduled for installation during the December break, reflects the School’s continued commitment to service and sustainability in action.

During Term 1, the school will begin issuing updated IDs for parents. No action is necessary, as we will use the photo we have on record for you; however, if you are interested in having a new photo taken, please sign up here.
Kindly note that this is not a photo shoot, and the purpose of the image taken will just be for the updated identification card.
