Giving our BSM students the gift of a joyful, holistic, and balanced education

Dear BSM Family,

As you are all aware, I am sure, we commit to The British School Manila to provide an outstanding, holistic British international education.

This is not about grades alone. But as we know, academic success is influenced by a myriad of factors. We seek to help every student gain skills, understanding, and values to make a positive contribution to our world. To do this, we guide them to discover their strengths, stretch their thinking, and grow as balanced and happy young people. We want them to leave BSM not only with the very best academic results they can achieve, but with curiosity, creativity, resilience, and a strong moral compass, qualities that will serve them in university and in life.

Of course, ideas and research only matter if they bear fruit. Our planning and provision at BSM across academic and broader curriculum elements are deeply couched in research, in ongoing development of best practice and delivered by passionate practitioners.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and at BSM, we see the results every year. Our students consistently achieve outstanding IGCSE and IB Diploma outcomes, opening doors to top universities across the world. Just as importantly, they shine beyond academics. Our athletes show skill and sportsmanship in local and international competitions. Our Service and Sustainability initiatives inspire action far beyond our campus. Our music, drama, and visual arts programmes earn recognition for creativity and innovation. These holistic achievements are not accidents. They grow from a curriculum and schedule designed to nurture the whole student.

None of this would be possible without the partnership we share with you as parents. Your encouragement of curiosity, resilience, good study habits, healthy eating and healthy rest is invaluable. When school and home work together, children flourish.

As we look ahead, we will continue to draw on the best international research and to listen carefully to our own community. Our goal is never simply “adding more,” but developing richer learning, learning that challenges, excites, and builds character. Each carefully planned element is part of a larger purpose: to help every BSM student grow as a thinker, artist, athlete, and compassionate thinker.

Thank you for trusting us with this important work and partnering with us. Together, we are giving our students the gift of a joyful and balanced education.

This past week has been a frustrating one for many, I know, but I remain thankful for the safety of our community and look forward to the end of this typhoon season.

Wishing you a safe, family-filled weekend.

'Nutrition Parent Workshop with Harvie de Baron', Wednesday, 08 October, 08.00am-09.00am, LRC Level 2, Screen Space

Discover how the food choices we make every day directly influence our children’s health, well-being, and academic performance. This presentation from Harvie De Baron of the Baron Method will reveal eye-opening research on how added sugars, artificial colours, and processed foods affect focus, memory, and mood, while also highlighting the powerful role of whole, nutrient-rich foods in boosting immunity, energy, and learning. Parents will take away practical strategies - such as simple swaps for pantry staples, breakfast habits that sharpen thinking, and family-friendly tips for introducing healthier alternatives - that can transform mealtimes into opportunities for long-term wellness. This engaging session promises to equip you with the knowledge and tools to nurture stronger bodies, sharper minds, and happier children through the healing power of food.

Please register here on or before Tuesday, 07 October if you would like to attend this Parent Workshop.
