Excited for Term 2! Founders' Day Assembly highlights, Nutrition Workshop with Harvie de Baron, Toy Donation for Tondo and many more

Dear BSM Family,

Welcome back from your Christmas break. I trust that it was just what was needed after a long and fulfilling Term 1, whether that meant time to rest, re-energise, or enjoy precious moments with family and friends. It has been a real pleasure to see the school return with such a positive start to Term 2, and to feel the sense of focus, warmth, and momentum across our community.

A very special and warm welcome to new families joining us. We hope you will settle in very quickly to our BSM community rhythm.

As you know, The British School Manila was founded in 1976. This August, we begin our 50th year, a remarkable milestone and a moment of real pride for us all. Our Founders’ Day Assembly, which we held on Tuesday morning, is always a special opportunity to come together, reflect, and celebrate. We were especially pleased to welcome our alumni speaker, Kyle Tinga (Class of 2013, School Year 2012-2013). It was inspiring to hear her successes, and particularly meaningful that your passions align so closely with BSM’s commitments to sustainability.

Each year, Founders’ Day Assembly provides a dedicated moment to celebrate the three defining elements of our school: the past, the present, and the future. We honour the wisdom and courage of our founders, acknowledge the strength of our community through times of challenge and change, and encourage our current community to continue to grow, thrive, and flourish.

This year was our fourth Founders’ Day Assembly, and a relatively new tradition at BSM. It began in 2023, in anticipation of our upcoming golden anniversary celebrations. Tradition is often described as the practices and values passed from one generation to the next because they remain meaningful and important, and what we keep doing because it connects us to our past.

As we look ahead to the next two terms of the school year, we also look forward to our ongoing collaborative spirit. Already this week, we have held two significant workshop events for parents. Online Safety and Social Media Awareness was a repeat session due to its popularity. Click the link to find the details of our workshop.

On Wednesday evening, our Higher Education Team gave detailed regional and country workshops on tertiary education destinations, as well as a holistic overview for all parents on the path for students beyond IB. Insights into the Extended Essay were also provided. For further information on these, please see Extended Essay Website and Future Pathways Website.

We are pleased to advise that BSM will host representatives from Imperial College and Cambridge University for University Information Sessions on Monday, 02 February 2026 at a University Fair from 05.00pm-06.30pm in the Bayanihan Hall.

Enjoy a family-filled weekend.

Parent Workshops

'Nutrition Workshop with Harvie de Baron for family helpers, yayas, cooks, and drivers', Wednesday, 28 January 2026, 08.00am-09.00am, Senior FoodiE Bistro

Following the success of our recent parent session, BSM will host another nutrition workshop led by Harvie de Baron of the Baron Method.

This session is designed especially for family helpers, yayas, cooks and drivers,  and will cover the same practical nutrition guidance in a hands-on, accessible way. Participants will learn simple tips to support healthy eating at home—from checking ingredient labels and preparing balanced meals, to making small adjustments that suit each child’s individual needs.

The workshop aims to empower those who help prepare family meals with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy choices that benefit the whole household.

Please register here.

'Parent Coffee Morning Part 2: Strengthening Family Connections, Collaboration, & Communication', Wednesday, 21 January 2026, 08.00am-09.00am, LRC Level 2 Screen Space

Parents who attended Ms Monika's Parent Workshop on "Strengthening Family Connections, Collaboration, & Communication" last November are warmly invited to a Coffee Morning to share ideas and talk about successes, challenges, and tips.

Please register here.

Service & Sustainability: Toy Donation for Tondo

Do you have any working but unused/unwanted toys at home post the holiday season?

We have had a request for toys for the communities impacted by the fires that happened in Tondo towards the end of last year.

They are looking for things suitable for children between the ages of 5 and 15.

Please drop your donations by the Children's Gate - we will be collecting until the end of the school day on Tuesday, 20 January.
