A moment of reflection and celebration

A moment of reflection and celebration

Dear BSM Family,

As we approach the end of another rich and rewarding school year, this week offered us many opportunities to reflect, to celebrate, and to give thanks – all hallmarks of what makes our community so special here at the British School Manila.

Yesterday, we joined the nation in commemorating Philippine Independence Day. It is a moment that allows us to honour the deep cultural heritage, resilience, and pride of our host nation. As a school community that benefits immensely from the warmth, hospitality and talent of our Filipino colleagues, students and families, we take this time each year to pause and give thanks. We are grateful to call the Philippines home, and continue to seek meaningful ways to learn from and contribute to our host culture and country.

It was fitting then, in this week of pride and reflection, that we also hosted our BSM Sports Awards – an evening filled with energy, camaraderie and applause. The BSM Sports Awards remind us of the extraordinary power of sport to bring people together, to build character and grit, and to elevate the everyday into something exceptional. From outstanding team performances to individual achievements, what shone through most clearly was the spirit of teamwork and the joy of participation. To every student who wore a BSM jersey this year, to the PE department and every coach and staff who generously gave their time and expertise, and to every parent who stood on the sidelines cheering – thank you. You have embodied our values and made us proud.

And finally, as is tradition at this time of year, we prepare to say farewell to a number of our teaching and support staff who will be moving on from BSM. Each has played a meaningful role in shaping the lives of our students and strengthening the fabric of our school. Their impact will live on in the students they’ve inspired, the friendships they’ve built, and the legacy they leave behind. We wish them and their families all the very best in the adventures ahead, and we hope they will always be part of the BSM Family.

Warm regards,

Martin van der Linde
