Happy Half-Term!
Dear BSM Family,
Happy half-term! It’s hard to believe that we’re already well into the school year! Then again, perhaps it’s not so surprising, given the incredible whirlwind of activity, energy, and engagement that has filled these first several weeks. Nine weeks of living and learning together as a community have seen many highlights, too many to mention here.
The truly wonderful start to this academic year deserves thanks to our great BSM team, our supportive parents, the Board and as always, our students for making it a splendid half-term. Reflecting on the highlights and successes so far, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and privilege to be part of this remarkable school community. From inspiring teaching and learning and exciting ASAs to impactful community engagement, each day has brought new opportunities for growth, learning, and connection.
We’ve seen our students rise to challenges, explore new passions, and support one another, while our dedicated staff continues to bring out the best in each individual. Our students exemplifying our core values of Kindness, Integrity and Respect during these early weeks have set a fantastic tone for the year ahead, and I’m thrilled to see what else lies ahead for us.
Please do read other sections of the Lion’s Roar to catch up on specific school areas’ news and updates.
As is the norm during any international school year there are times for welcomes and farewells, and while half-term is rather unusual, today we do have a leaver. A valued team member moving on to new opportunities after 14 years at BSM is Jay Galang, our librarian. We all wish him and his family every success in his move to Riyadh.
Next half term, as we run up to the end of Term 1 promises to be as exciting and fulfilling as the half just passed. Speaking of “run up” please look out for reminders of upcoming events, first of which is our annual Fun Run on Sunday, 27 October - sign up here.
Our traditional Guy Fawkes Night event will be celebrated on Friday, 08 November! This event is hugely popular and tickets are unfortunately limited so please sign up here as early as possible.
As we plan ahead for the upcoming school year, there have been some changes to the start dates. Please see this link to the calendar draft next school year.
Wishing you all a great, family-filled half-term break.

Parent Workshops
'Understanding Success in a Global World: ToK and Critical Thinking for Parents', Wednesday, 23 October 2024, 08.00am-09.00am, LRC Level 2 Screen Space
Join us for this year’s Theory of Knowledge (ToK) Parent Workshop as we explore the evolving role of critical thinking at BSM. Building on last year’s focus, this session examines how understanding both objective and subjective experiences can help students succeed in an international context.
We’ll discuss the idea of embracing ignorance, not as a weakness, but as a tool for fostering curiosity and asking better questions. Parents will learn how to guide their children through diverse environments, balancing external success with personal reflection.
Through practical examples and BBC podcasts, this workshop aims to equip parents with strategies to help their children thrive academically and personally. Together, we can nurture globally-minded, critical thinkers. Sign-up here
