Dear BSM Family,
Welcome back from your Christmas break. I trust that it was just what was needed after a fulfilling 2024. Whether that be restful, energising, or family-filled.
Today, as is traditional on the first Friday after Christmas break, our BSM Founders’ Day Assembly provided an opportunity to celebrate the three key elements of our wonderful school - the past, present, and future.

At BSM, we are incredibly proud of our place and contribution in the Philippines and I linked these three elements in the assembly today to a cultural link to the Philippines. The National Tree: The Narra Tree.
The tree’s striking beauty and cultural significance make it a cherished part of the country’s identity.
As we all know, a tree is made of three main parts, the roots, trunk and branches with leaves.
Our roots are the historical foundations upon which BSM was built, the past. They remind us of where we came from and the people who made it possible. To the past, to our founders, we say thank you for the vision and sacrifices that planted this seed that is BSM today. And to our community, teachers, staff, governors, and families, you continue to nourish this school. Without your dedication and hard work, we would not continue to flourish as we do. To the past, our roots, we say thank you for the vision and sacrifices that planted this seed.
The trunk symbolises the present, a sturdy and steadfast connection between our past and future. It is through this trunk that we draw strength and stability, uniting our community in shared purpose. Today’s valediction exemplifies this connection, as our Senior Student Leaders pass on the mantle of responsibility, ensuring that the present remains a solid foundation for sustained growth and opportunity. To the present, our trunk, we celebrate our achievements and the many incredible opportunities we enjoy today.
The branches and leaves represent the future, ever growing, reaching outward, and flourishing with potential. You, our students, and alumni, are the branches and vibrant leaves of this tree, carrying the essence of BSM into the world. Whether solving global challenges, leading your communities, or charting new paths, you embody the potential and promise of what is yet to come. Just as leaves draw energy from the sun to sustain the tree, your growth and accomplishments will continue to enrich and sustain our collective legacy. To the future, our branches and leaves, we look forward with great optimism and positivity, knowing that what we build today will shape the leaders of tomorrow.
In today’s Founders’ Assembly we honoured the continuum of BSM’s story. The symbolism and connections through generations remind us to be grateful for what has been gifted to us in the establishment of BSM in 1976, almost 49 years ago, by our founders and built upon in the committed generations which followed.
Each day our BSM community continues to build on the vibrant holistic education that epitomises just who we are as a school.
Here’s to a wonderful remainder of the school year and a successful and fulfilling 2025!
