What is Key Stage 2?

Key Stage 2 at BSM covers years 3 to 6 with children spanning the ages of 7 to 11. This area builds on the learning developed in Key Stage 1 and prepares them for a successful transition into senior school.

The four years that your child spends in Key Stage 2 link seamlessly with Key Stage 1 and are designed to fully prepare our students for their time at the senior school. Children experience a rich and varied curriculum and your child’s development will be characterised by an increasing level of independence alongside the acquisition of essential skills, knowledge and understanding of their world. Our children develop the skills that support them understand how to learn and lead their own learning. We also recognise that the social and emotional development of your child is highly important during this period of their lives.

Our learning areas are designed and equipped to inspire your child. Our curriculum ensures your child will be provided with ample opportunities to learn essential content discretely and directly whilst also giving scope for them to make connections across subjects. ICT is integrated to enhance all learning and deepen your child’s ability to use ICT as a tool to learn and interact.

Your child will participate in residential programmes that support personal development and independence. We regularly take trips off site to maximise our children’s use of the services and opportunities available within the local community. Emphasis is placed on our teachers working in partnership with you our families to address the individual needs of your child. Rigorous assessment systems, small class sizes and excellent home school communication all help to contribute to the success of children in Key Stage 2.
