The Primary Years

The primary school caters for children between the ages of 3 to 11 years.  It consists of three stages:

  • Early Years Foundation Stage - Nursery and Reception
  • Key Stage 1 - Years 1 and 2
  • Key Stage 2 - Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

The primary school is a thriving vibrant community with happy children, who flourish in a lively learning environment.

We support and encourage any curriculum innovations we feel have the potential to enhance the learning of the children at BSM.  All of our classrooms have interactive whiteboards that provide very visual and stimulating classroom materials to motivate learning.  Accelerated Learning is an integral part of classroom practice, as is Assessment for Learning which helps to ensure our students are fully involved in assessing their own work.  Recently we have introduced Building Learning Power giving the children ownership and strategies to become better life long learners.  Research has shown that these techniques really do work, deepening the learning experience of children and helping to create life long learners.

The curriculum is skills-led and designed to meet the needs of children who will be future

global citizens.  It is based on the English National Curriculum and is modified and enhanced for our international setting with a strong desire to instil a global dimension into the learning experience.  We believe we are providing a secure foundation from which children can thrive and build a successful future for themselves, whilst becoming responsible citizens of the world.  The curriculum is supported by Special Days that further bring to life topics studied, offering greater insight and empathy and often celebrating the international nature of our School.

Learning should be enjoyable, enriching and inspire a desire to learn, and as a school we are continuously striving to improve.  We have high expectations of ourselves and the children we teach.  Our NCT results are excellent and well above UK national averages in English, Mathematics and Science, the three subjects children are externally assessed in, with on average over the past 5 years 75% of our children achieving level 5’s.

There is so much to tell you about our wonderful school and I invite you to explore further the linked pages here.
